Meet the Board

Aeric Koerner - President

Andrea Sirois - Vice President

I joined the MPA program as an accelerated master's student last year, and

now I'm in the program as a full-time graduate student. It was this experience

that not only prompted me to run for MPPASA, but to also initiate a change

by adding an AMP Chair.

In addition, to my obligations as student body representative I also work

full-time as a Store Manager and a few part-time positions. I have experience

in the Nonprofit, Private and Public Sector. Eventually I'd like to run for office

as an elected official. Personally, I've lived in Tucson un-consecutively for the past 10 years, but also lived in Nevada, California, Canada and Australia.

I enjoy traveling both domestically and internationally; my favorite place to vacation so far was this past summer in Thailand. In my spare time I like to read and rock climb. One of my favorite authors is Malcolm Gladwell and one of my favorite books is Just Mercy: A Story of Redemption. I am excited to see what this year holds for our program!

Dillon Nakata - Treasurer

Lauren Joiner - Events Chair

The role of the Events Chair is to plan engaging and welcoming events for all students to attend throughout the year. My goal for the year is to host a wide spectrum of events, ranging from professional networking to informal hangouts after class. The ultimate goal I am striving for is to have every student feel comfortable attending at least one event per semester according to their interests and professional goals. Feel free to contact me with any ideas or suggestions of events that you would like to see!

I was born and raised in southern California, with the last city I lived in being San Diego. I moved to Maricopa, AZ in the middle of my freshman year of high school, and decided to attend the U of A upon graduation. Originally I had intended on being a Business major, but ultimately made that my minor and made Public Management and Policy my major. In addition to being a student, I have several on campus jobs: Staff Development Coordinator for Saferide, a Graduate Assistant for Professor Vance, and a national test proctor for the testing office. I also have some experience in the nonprofit sector, with having done internships at the American Cancer Society and the International Rescue Committee. After graduation, I would like to take some time off and travel again before starting a job that will most likely have to do with animals.

Some of my interests include binge watching Netflix, Krav Maga, travelling, and everything to do with the Marvel Universe. If you ever want an intense superhero conversation, I’m your girl.

Ramon Lopez - Alumni Chair

Sean Goslar - Communications Chair

The role of this position is to keep you updated on events, important

information surrounding the program, and make sure that your questions

and concerns are heard and addressed. Contact me!

I am a Tucson native, but I lived in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico from

the ages of 9 - 16. Upon my return to the US, I finished my junior and

senior years of high school at Sahuarita High School. I then attended

the University of Arizona, where I received a BA in Spanish with a minor

in Government and Public Service.

My family owned a restaurant for some time, and I have done every job you can think of in the food service industry. I also worked at a pre-school after-school program. I then went on to work for several congressional offices in the role of constituent services representative (caseworker). I worked for Congressman Raul Grijalva, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, and Congressman Ron Barber. I most recently began working at Catholic Community Services, in their immigration department where we work primarily off of a federal grant that allows us to serve victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Upon completion of the program, I would like to focus my attention on criminal justice reform, with an emphasis on programs that are alternatives to prison.

I enjoy playing tennis, reading, and socializing. I am excited to be in this position and look forward to continuing the good work this student body has set forth.

Katherine Burns-Davis - Fundraising Chair

I am a Tucson native and I joined the MPA program in January 2016! For Fall 2016, I am an intern with the City of Tucson's Economic Initiatives Office under the City Manager and working part time for a U of A student safety program.  My undergraduate degree was in Global Studies with a focus on Central America and a minor in Business Administration.  I spent a summer in Costa Rica studying at the National University in Heredia and spent part of a summer in the Mayan Highlands of Guatemala in the Lake Atitlán area working with a nonprofit and buying hand-loomed fabric for a social enterprise.  Last summer, I traveled throughout Europe and hope to return there in the very near future.  I love to practice yoga, surf, hike, ski, and travel!

I look forward to serving you as an MPPASA Board member!  Let's support our very own student association and make friendships that will last a lifetime!

Katie Essmeyer - First Year Rep

As the First Year Representative, I am here to represent and connect

first year students of the MPA and MPP programs. If you ever have any questions

or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

I did my undergrad in political science and North American studies at

the Freie University Berlin, and I am currently completing my graduate studies in

Public Administration in cooperation with the University of Konstanz, Germany. I am

also working part-time as a teaching assistant at the University of Arizona.

Outside of school and work, I love traveling, reading and playing ukulele. I am excited for all the events we have planned, and I hope to see you all soon!

John Williams - AMP Chair

The Accelerated Masters Program (AMP) chair is the newest addition to

the MPPASA Board. This position was created in order to provide

resources and support for our current AMP students, as well as reach

out to potential AMP students. As a current AMP student who

understands this challenging, yet rewarding, program, I am excited to

serve in this capacity!

I was born in San Diego, California and raised in Rio Rico, Arizona.

I graduated from Rio Rico High School in 2012. From there, I came to the

University of Arizona and graduated with a BA in political science and a minor in German studies in 2015. During my senior year I began the accelerated track for the Masters in Public Administration Program. As an AMP student, I served as a teaching assistant for Pamela Adams’ Introduction to Public Administration course. Additionally, I worked as intern at the University of Arizona Office of Federal Relations.

Upon completion of the program, I plan on attending the United States Army Officer Candidate School.

If you are a current AMP student, or an undergraduate student considering the AMP track, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. I will be happy to discuss the program with you!
